Week Really Late: Our Superbowl Recap on Superbowl Sunday

In honor of today being the Superbowl, I decided to finally recap our Superbowl.  The problem with recapping it 6-8 weeks late is that I can't recall some of the smaller moments during the morning.

Trevor started out Saturday morning with a chance to make a statement.  He had three players playing in the first game, but they only ended up combining for 30 points.  It wasn't a terrible start, but it wasn't the start Trevor needed, with his TE only getting 6, and his flex only getting 9.

The second Saturday game saw another big chance for each team to make a statement with George Kittle vs DeAndre Hopkins.  Kittle had been hurt most of the year, but when he was healthy, he had put up a 23 point game and a 40 point game. Hopkins had been amazing all year, with 12 total games of 10+ points out of 14, and 8 of them being 20+ point affairs. In the end, both players were simply solid, with Kittle getting 13.2 and Hopkins getting 12.8.  If anything, Trevor was slightly disappointed since Hopkins had been averaging over 19 a game over his last 6 games

The third Saturday game had Trevor's kicker, and Brady got cute and started a Dolphins RB.  Brady's stunt, which may or may not have been a smart idea at the time, I don't remember, got him a whopping 3.6 points.  Trevor got 13 from his kicker, which was his 2nd highest total on the season.

So at the end of day 1, Trevor was leading about 55 to 15.  The lead was a little inflated due to the sheer number of players Trevor had already played compared to Brady, but he still had to be feeling good, and I imagine Brady was still feeling hopeful.

Sunday morning brought about a big swing to Brady's favor -- B EZ staple Brandin Cooks came up with his 2nd best game of the season with 27 points, while recent acquisitions Monty (who Brady had disparaged more than once) and Higgins helped Brady retake the lead.  Monty had his 5th straight game of 20+ points, and Higgins had his 2nd best game of the year with 21.9 points.  It feels weird to say it, but the biggest disappointment during this window was Brady's kicker. A kicker getting 2 is never a great thing, but it's not unheard of either -- but for Koo, it was his worst game of the year.  That had to hurt, especially since Koo had more games with double-digit scores (9) than games with single-digit scores (3) before this game.

In the Sunday afternoon game, Ekeler had a respectable 15 points, but it was partially offset by Brady's Charger getting 5 points during the same game.  Trevor had to be disappointed that Ekeler didn't give his team a bigger boost/a small lead before it came down to the QB's.

Trevor was down 15 or so points when Tannehill took the field against Aaron Rodgers.  The Titans were down most of the game, which should have been better for Tannehill, but he ended up disappointing with his third-lowest game of the season.  It was enough to give Trevor a small lead, and a hope that perhaps an injury or covid could do Josh Allen (Brady's QB) in, but Brady planned ahead and picked up Jake Fromm (State Farm) to help offset some of those concerns.

In the end, Brady's MVP, Josh Allen, put up 40+ points and put Trevor out of his misery pretty early on.  Three of Brady's biggest players this week were all acquired via trade -- so no more trading with Brady if you are TJ or ::checks notes:: Skyler.  With Brady's win, we have back to back years of people becoming 2-time winners.  The last four championships have gone Rob, Brady, Rob, Brady. It's a bit early to call them dynasties, but they clearly run the league right now.

NO TRADING WITH ROB OR BRADY NEXT YEAR! That is all, thanks for attending my TED talk.

But seriously, congrats to Brady on his 2nd trophy, and for winning two of the last three championships.  And a personal apology for taking so long to do the write-up. On a strictly fantasy player note, this is Cooks and Kittle's 2nd championship with Brady.  Cooks has been on 3 of the last 4 championships, and Koo has been on back to back championship teams.  Just keep those in mind during your draft.

Great season for everyone, except those of us who really sucked -- Jordan, Me, TJ, Tommy.  Better luck next year to us.  See you all in May for picking our draft spots.
