Week 5 and 6: And the blog did wander for two weeks

I'm sorry for the delay in getting this done.  I'll blame it on kids getting sick, parents coming to town, and the UHSAA RPI for football going on. Let's not waste time before the lightning round recaps. Also, I'm still incredibly proud of week 5 2021's intro

Week 5 Game Recaps

Skyler vs Trevor: Trevor beat Skyler by 9 thanks to 30 point night from Josh Jacobs.

Brandon vs Tommy: Brandon beat Tommy by 27 thanks to 43 points from Josh Allen. This was the battle of ineptitude as this was the only game that didn't combine for over 200.

Tyler vs Rob:  Tyler beat Rob by 2.7 thanks to four players going 20+. This was the nail-biter of the week and the Monday Night Miracle/Nightmare

TJ vs Brady: Brady beat TJ by 19 thanks to 33 points from Kelce. This was the weekly bonanza.

Jordan vs Chad: Jordan beat Chad by 14 thanks to 30 points from Justin Jefferson.

Kyle vs Matt: Matt beat Kyle by 17 (and remained undefeated) thanks to 38 points from Patrick Mahomes.

Week 5 Award Season

MVP: Juju and the KC DST did enough to hold on and get Tyler his first win.

LVP: The sun god for having his lowest game of the season in a narrow loss.

Unluckiest Team of the Week: Chad was the 4th highest scorer this week and lost

Luckiest Team of the Week: Brandon could have only beaten two people this week, and he matched up with one of them.

Highest Scoring Team of the Week: Brady puts in the work and scores the most points this week.

Lowest Scoring Team of the Week: Tommy had a really bad week.  To illustrate how bad, he scored 82.  Everyone else scored at least 105.  7 of those teams scored 120+.

Week 6 Game Recaps

Skyler vs Tyler: Tyler beat Skyler by 12.84 thanks to 13 points from his kicker on MNF -- but really thanks to 23 points from Andrews.

Kyle vs Tommy: Kyle beat Tommy by 26 thanks to 18 points from Lamar Jackson.

Brandon vs Chad: Brandon beat Chad by 8 thanks to 32 points from Josh Allen.

Trevor vs Brady: Brady beat Trevor by 16 thanks to 22 points from Run CMC.

Matt vs TJ: TJ beat Matt by 19 thanks to 38 points from Joe Burrow.  Matt is no longer undefeated. This was the weekly bonanza with a combined score of over 260.

Rob vs Jordan: Jordan beat Rob by 4 thanks to 18 points from Saquon Barkley. This was far and away the battle of ineptitude as they combined for around 165. To make up for the lack of scoring, at least it was the weekly/nightly nail-biter with a spread of 4.5 points.

Week 6 Award Season

MVP: Another shared award like last week.  One half for Joe Burrow for dominating on the highest-scoring team of the week and for bringing Matt down to earth, and hopefully helping his app work, and the other for Justin Herbert for doing enough to give Jordan the narrow win over Rob, while also not throwing the ball too much to Rob's players to get him the win.

LVP: One of those players that Justin Herbert didn't throw to was Melvin Gordon.  He got a total of 3 carries for 8 yards.  He was on the field so little that the coach had to clarify after the game that he wasn't hurt and would play more next week.

Unluckiest Team of the Week: Matt was the highest-scoring loser, so he wins this award.

Luckiest Team of the week: Jordan scored 85 and still won.  That was the 3rd worst score of the week.

Highest Scoring Team of the Week: Take a bow TJ for toppling Matt.

Lowest Scoring Team of the Week: Tommy is the back-to-back 'champ' of this award.

Game Previews

Skyler vs Kyle: 1 total primetime player (all Skyler)

Brandon vs Brady: 3 total primetime players (all Brandon)

Chad vs Trevor: 2 total primetime players (1 each)

Jordan vs Matt: 3 total primetime players (1 Jordan, 2 Matt)

TJ vs Rob: 2 total primetime players (1 each)

Tommy vs Tyler: 3 total primetime players (2 Tommy, 1 Tyler)

Sorry for the delay and the lack of quality.  I had to get a new laptop charger, so my laptop was out of commission the last couple of days.  Best of luck to everyone but Kyle this week.

Week 4: And the Commissioner Repented of the Evil Which he Thought to do Unto his League

Last week, I mentioned that half of the teams scored 105 and under for each of the first three weeks. This week, only two teams didn't hit that metric (and they were both division leaders).  I don't know if that's a sign that things are leveling out, or if they are getting weirder.  They are probably getting weirder as the 4 bottom teams have the top 4 championship appearances (when you sort first by number of appearances and then by alphabetical order last name -- that way we can keep 'Miguel, Rob' out for this example). Either way, let's dive into the recap.

Skyler vs Brandon: Skyler finally got at least 100 points.  It didn't really matter though since Brandon dropped 150+.  Skyler finally got the 100-point monkey off of his back with 20+ point games from Deebo and the 49ers DST.  All of that was for naught because Brandon had twice as many 20+ point players (Allen, CEH, Pierce, and Lamb).

Tommy vs Trevor: Tommy was living the life.  He started 3-0, he was leading the division, and was 2nd place in the league.  And then he nearly lost by 100 points (it was around 93).  This was easily the blowout of the week. Tommy's low score was made possible by no 20+ point players, and 7 of his 9 players getting single digits. Trevor wasn't the leading scorer of the week, but putting up 160+ has to feel good (as long as you don't lose). He only had three people score 20+ (King Henry), but two of those three went for 30+ (DangeRuss and Josh Jacobs).  The win gets Trevor the belt, and up to .500 for his record.

Chad vs TJ: TJ put up 173 and was the high scorer of the week. He also had three players who each scored single digits -- good thing five other people on his team put up 20+, and two of those five went for 30+ (Ekeler and Hockenson). Chad was maybe a little hopeful at one point that he had a chance of winning, but once he realized only Tyreek was going to score 20+ for his team, he threw in the towel pretty quickly.

Brady vs Jordan: This was the weekly bonanza, and was a TD away from being the only game to combine for 300 points. This bonanza was made possibly by both teams doing well, and being the 2nd closest game of the week (16 points). The newly acquired Run CMC joined the recently acquired Kelce and the 2nd round B EZ draft pick Evans to score 20+.  I realize it's only the 4th game of the week, so calling CMC and Evans' games as their 'highest week of the season' is technically correct, but disingenuous with all the time remaining -- though Brady has to be less than thrilled he didn't win when his studs finally put a good week together.  Jordan's win was made possible by three  20+ point players (Herbert, Jefferson, and DK "Paul 'I need to poop' Pierce" Metcalf), and also because he only had one player score single digits, while Brady had three such players.

Matt vs Tyler:  3-0 Matt took on 0-3 Tyler, and while it may have got a little uncomfortable looking at what Cupp was doing on MNF, Matt got the win.  For the first time in franchise history, Matt has started 4-0, and remains the last undefeated team in the league.  Do you guys remember senior sunrise where Matt won like 50 games in a row of shuffleboard (or maybe it was skee ball?) and our only goal was to knock him off of his perch, and we focused all our energy on that? I don't bring that up for any particular reason, just a fun memory.  Anyway, Matt got this win behind Mahomes, Chubb, and Sanders all score 20+, while Tyler had 30+ from Brady, and tried to make it close with 25+ from Kupp. He caught 14 of 19 for 120 yards and 0 TD's.  I thought that had to be some sort of record of most catches without a TD, but that record is held by Jason Witten, who caught 18 of 23 for 167 and 0 TD's back in 2012. He did that for Geoff in week 8 (34.7 fantasy points), who lost to Rob that week, who had Gronk score 34.6 in that matchup.

Rob vs Kyle: In the nail-biter of the week, and also the battle of ineptitude, Rob won by 2, and the combined score was just under 211. Rob got the win behind 26+ from Kyler Murray, while Kyle nearly eked out the win thanks to 23+ from Llama J (Jamaal Williams).  Rob was nearly let down by the Rams DST getting 2 points while Kyle had Higbee working on the other side to make it close. One catch for 7 yards on that last drive would have won Kyle the game -- oh well.

Award Season

Highest Scoring Team of the Week: Welcome TJ to the podium.  He claims this is his first time here.  No idea if it's true, but we'll say it is so he can extra enjoy the moment.

Lowest Scoring Team of the Week: Tommy -- thanks for keeping this award in the North where it belongs.

MVP: TJ Hockenson was the highest scorer on the highest scoring team (TJ's team), so he wins this award since the double TJ has a nice ring to it.

LVP: Gabe Davis scored 2.3 points on one catch for 13 yards.  In a narrow game where Kyle needed a few extra yards, this has to sting.

Luckiest Team of the Week: Rob could have only beaten two people this week, and he played one of them.

Unluckiest Team of the Week: Brady was the 4th highest scorer, but ran into the 3rd highest scorer (and FanDuel Champion) in Jordan.

King of the Court: Tommy took his ball and went home after Trevor kicked him off the court, and took the belt.

Game Previews

Skyler (12) vs Trevor (5): Skyler has one player on Thursday night and one player in primetime. Trevor has two players on Thursday night and one player in primetime. This is the first of the two main candidates for the battle of ineptitude. This will continue to be the case until one of the 'Yler's win a game. This is also to determine the king of the court.

Brandon (8) vs Tommy (4): Brandon has one player on Thursday night and two players in primetime. Tommy has no players on Thursday night and two players in primetime. With four players in primetime, this could be the Monday Night Miracle/Nightmare.

Jordan (3) vs Chad (10): Jordan has no players on Thursday night and one player in primetime. Chad has no players on Thursday night and one player in primetime. Jordan doesn't need analysis, he has fanduel.

TJ (2) vs Brady (9): TJ has one player on Thursday night and three players in primetime. Brady has two players on Thursday night and one player in primetime. With four players in primetime, this could be the Monday Night Miracle/Nightmare.

Kyle (7) vs Matt (1): Kyle has one player on Thursday night and one player in primetime. Matt has no players on Thursday night and two players in primetime. This looks to be the prime candidate for the weekly bonanza, but who knows with how the league is going.

Tyler (11) vs Rob (6): Tyler has no players on Thursday night and one player in primetime. Rob has one player on Thursday night and no players in primetime. This is the second of the two main candidates for the battle of ineptitude. This will continue to be the case until one of the 'Yler's win a game.

Best of luck to everyone but Trevor this week.

Week 3: Though Shalt Not Covet a Healthy Quarterback

I thought this was a bad week since half the teams scored 105 or fewer points, but as it turns out, that has happened every week this year. The only people to hit that mark every week are last year’s two best teams – the ‘Yler’ cousins, ‘Sk’ and ‘T’. All the rest of you jabroni’s have gotten 106+ at least once this year.  But ask yourself this, what’s more likely – these two stay at the bottom all season, or the two teams who have combined for more championship appearances than any other two teams combined figure out a way to not suck?  I’m pretty sure they are now jinxed.

Game Recaps

Skyler vs Brady: Brady started out hot, Skyler made a minor comeback, but we all knew it was short-lived given the players Brady had remaining. Skyler had zero people score 20+ points. Brady had only one person – but it was the King himself (who Brady just traded away). This game should have been the battle of ineptitude, yet somehow, some freezing cold teams did worse. Are they freezing cold because they suck, or because they were playing for the ice trophy?  That’s called foreshadowing. Tua got injured but was able to come back in.  I'm sure this breaks the curse of Skyler's quarterbacks getting hurt with a low-point total and missing the rest of the game.

Tommy vs Chad: In the king of the court battle, Chad came for the king, and missed. There was a lot of back and forth this game, but Tommy retained the belt in the end.  He retained that belt thanks to four 20+ point players – Carr, Robinson, Patterson, and the Eagles DST.  Chad was the only person to get 30+ points from a player (Hurts) this game (and also got a 20+ Cooper), but it wasn’t enough to stop the undefeated Pit Stains Who Gives a Pit.

Matt vs Trevor: Matt has come back down to earth a little bit (at least from a scoring perspective), but it didn’t matter much since Trevor was part of the half that scored 105 or less this week.  Strangely enough, no one in this game scored 20+.  Let’s hope this is a trend for the BHers and not just a speed bump on the road on their way to total domination

Rob vs Brandon:  In this potential ineptitude battle between tankers, Brandon put up the high score of the week, and this was the blowout of the weak week. Rob didn’t have a player score over 15, while Brandon had two players go for 20+ (CD Lamb), and one of those two (Josh Allen) scored 30+.  The blowout was so large that Brandon could have sat both his top players and still won by 9.

TJ vs Kyle:  Monday Night Miracle, thy master is Travis James.  Mr. Goodtimes shook his Monday Nightmare history and got a big win. The combo of Joey B and Hollywood each scored 25+ points for TJ. Kyle got a tad unlucky in that he got 47+ points from Lamar, but still lost by 14. Kyle was undone by four players scoring single-digit points, while TJ only had two such players.

Jordan vs Tyler: Who cares who won this game, because these snowflakes who wanted to be included in the write-up more thoroughly last time.  As such, they fully deserved their battle of ineptitude.  This was also the nail-biter of the week.  Tyler lost by 7, and had a defense that scored -4. So we all scored more fantasy points than the Joey Bosa/Kyle Van Noy defense. Also, Tyler could have started 26 of the 32 DST’s in the league, and he would have won his game.  3 of the 6 that would have led to a loss, would have led to a loss by .04 (aka 1 yard passing), so it was probably a good thing he didn’t start one of them. Only one DST scored negative this week, and Tyler managed to find them. Tyler had Mark Andrews who scored 28+ points, which was the highest of the match.  Unfortunately for Tyler, Jordan had Saquon on Monday, and he put the game out of reach with a 36 yard TD run as part of a 22+ point effort on Monday night.

Award Season:

MVP: Saquon for the last-minute win wins this award.  The Denver DST comes in a narrow second place.

LVP: Chargers DST --  basically see Jordan vs Tyler

Unluckiest Team of the Week: Kyle would have beat 8 other teams, but went up against the #2 team of the week in TJ

Luckiest Team of the Week: Jordan for how he won, and also because he would have lost to 8 other teams this week.

High Scorer of the Week: Brandon puts up a healthy 146.90 and gets the highest score of the week.

Low Scorer of the Week: Skyler wins what should have been a three-peat of this award, but he's the back to back winner of this award.

King of the Court: Tommy gets another win and keeps the good times rolling

I apologize for the lack of preview.  I had most of the above done by Thursday, and then life got in the way.  Now that it's Sunday night, most of the week 4 games are decided and it makes no sense.
